 | Family Stabilization Team (FST)
The Family Stabilization Team CHOICES Program is an intensive short term home-based therapeutic service which builds on the strengths of families who come to RMSC during difficult times of their life. Based on these strengths, clinical staff adopt intervention modules as a platform and foundation for further growth and change. This approach helps families meet their challenges and learn a variety of new skills including coping mechanisms for future circumstances.
Family Stabilization Teams, in maintaining the RMSC inclusive “Wraparound” approach to service delivery, ask for the participation of all family members. With the utilization of a clinically intensive, solution focused intervention, and a variety of therapeutic and supportive services, the chances of successfully keeping families intact dramatically increase. CHOICES is a program focused on Community Home-based Options: Innovations, Collaborative, and Effective Solutions.
The RMSC Family Stabilization Team (FST) delivers CHOICES Program services in the home and works with the total family, extended family, the children’s school, and other providers.
Focusing on Family Needs
The RMSC Family Stabilization Team (FST) above all, believes that all clients have resources and strengths to resolve dilemmas; it is our job to identify and build on these strengths. Counselors work in teams of two and have flexible hours. They are available extended hours during the week, and an emergency clinician is available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Members of the Family Stabilization Team (FST) have in-depth experience, training, and expertise working with individual families and cultures. The team has a reputation and sensitivity to each family’s uniqueness and is invested in keeping families together through a range of services to meet each family’s need in a variety of areas.
Access and Referral
FST services are funded through Mass Health, and RMSC contracts with MBHP, Neighborhood Health Plan, Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan and through the Department of Social Services (DSS).
Many families are referred through private insurance companies because their child is returning home from a psychiatric hospitalization or has been evaluated by a crisis clinician from the Boston Emergency Services Team. The B.E.S.T. team is a service for adults and children in need of immediate psychiatric intervention. Individuals who need emergency care are assessed and briefly treated by experienced, master’s level clinicians and physicians who specialize in rapid response to those in psychiatric crisis. B.E.S.T. provides a comprehensive, highly integrated system of crisis evaluation to children, adolescents, adults, including the elderly, the homeless, mentally ill and the multi-cultural populations within the Metro Boston areas.
