Emergency Services

Emergency Services prides itself on being one of the original services established when RMSC first opened its doors in 1964. The goal of Emergency Services is not only to assist community residents with the proper advocacy to avoid termination of utilities and homelessness but also to provide knowledge on budgeting to prevent situations in which eviction is a possibility.

Project Advance
The Project Advance program is an extension of Emergency Services that was created by RMSC in 1998 to address the needs and concerns of residents in our communities. In 2006 the program was modified to consolidate all eligible allocated funds for basic needs under one program focus. The programs goal however remains the same: to promote financial literacy and encourage individuals to adopt learned skills that reduce the need for emergency services.

One unique feature of the RMSC’s Project Advance program is the availability of resources to support individuals and families that are not allowed under the guidelines of other grants. In addition, Project Advance is designed to encourage clients to participate in a series of Personal Economic Planning and Budget Workshops over a five week period. Active participants in this program are provided with coaching, in some cases counseling, and information/referral services. Project Advance is successful when:

  • A family or individual is capable of overcoming a crisis and also has the ability to focus on solution based measures that stabilize the home and family.
  • Individuals and families become involved in preventative education initiatives, activities and workshops to reduce reliance on emergency or last resort programs.
  • Participants not only develop basic life management skills but also demonstrate positive advancement towards their goals
  • A connection is made between clients to resources and networks to support their goals for balance and personal development.
