Emergency Shelter
RMSC’s Family House has been serving the needs of homeless families since 1985. Originally, a duplex brownstone building, connected only by way of the ground floor the Family House was renovated in 2003 to combine the duplex into a single facility. In addition, the buildings capacity expanded to its current status of 66 family beds. The Family House Shelter serves single parent (both male and female heads of household) and intact families. The family components do vary, but must contain at least one child or a pregnant mother. All homeless families seeking shelter must register with the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) in order to be placed at the Family House Shelter. The Family House accepts adolescent boys over the age of 12 years, and provides culturally sensitive services to all residents.
